Is Your AC Doing One of These?
Most calls we take start with one of these six symptoms. If yours is on the list, it’s usually a repair — not a replacement.
Blowing warm air
The compressor, refrigerant charge, or condenser fan is the usual culprit. Turn the system off before it overheats and call us.
Running constantly but never cooling
On a 105° Fair Oaks afternoon some runtime is normal. A system that never cycles off is a system losing the fight — often low refrigerant or a dirty coil.
Tripping the breaker
Stop resetting it. A repeated trip is an electrical fault and a genuine fire risk. This one is urgent.
Loud grinding, squealing, or banging
Grinding is usually the blower motor bearing. Squealing points at the belt or motor. Banging typically means a loose or failing compressor component.
Water pooling around the indoor unit
A clogged condensate drain. Inexpensive to fix now, expensive once it reaches drywall or subfloor.
Weak airflow from the vents
Sometimes a filter. Often the blower, and often leaking ductwork — a common problem in older Fair Oaks and Carmichael homes.
Not sure which one? Call (916) 224-7159 and describe it. We’ll tell you what it likely is before we come out.
What Happens When You Call
- 1. You reach a person. No phone tree. Describe the problem and we’ll schedule you — same day whenever the schedule allows.
- 2. We diagnose it properly. Your technician tests the full system, not just the obvious part, so you don’t pay twice for the same breakdown.
- 3. You get the price before we start. You’ll hear what’s wrong, what it costs, and what happens if you wait. Then you decide. Nothing gets done without your approval.
- 4. We finish the job. Our trucks carry the parts that fail most often, so the majority of repairs are complete on the first visit.
Straightforward Pricing
Diagnostic fee: $120 — and we waive it completely when your repair comes to more than $499.
One flat fee to find out what is actually wrong, a firm price in writing before anything is taken apart, and no pressure to replace a system that has years left in it — if a repair is the right call, we’ll say so.

What Our Neighbors Say
VerifiedPosted on Yelp Louis J.We worked with Absolute Comfort Heating & Air to replace our HVAC and water heaters with all electric heat pump units and we couldn't be happier with the results. Their technicians were on point in dealing with unusual existing systems and even troubleshooting problems with our duct work that the previous homeowners and home inspections missed. Their prices lean towards premium, but it's worth it for the quality of equipment and the level of service that you get which included handling permits and SMUD rebates. Highly recommended!VerifiedPosted on Yelp Rey T.I hired Absolute Comfort Heating & Air to install a second zone for my house. They were highly recommended by a friend. I'm so glad I went with them! They were professional and clean. Another thing I really appreciated is that they were respectful of the fact that my wife and I work from home so they kept the noise level to a minimum. Absolutely no regrets!VerifiedPosted on Yelp Tom P.Coming here to add a review, I found one I posted 10-years ago. Dave and his team are still outstanding! This year they replaced our old HVAC system. They did a terrific job and kept us updated on the progress along the way. Everyone who assisted on the project was thoughtful and pleasant. An impressive organization. Thank You All!VerifiedPosted on Yelp Ben H.Theresa in customer service could not represent Absolute Comfort Heating & Air any better. On Saturday, July 6, 2024 at about 5:45 p.m. after she worked the July 4th holiday, Theresa called me back when I left a voicemail about my malfunctioning air conditioning system. The temperature was about 110 degrees and my family was burning up. Theresa recommended that I switch out the thermostat battery and to clean out the air filters in the house. Then she advised me to check the circuit breakers. Maybe that was obvious. But I didn't think of it. And it solved the problem. And my a/c's been working since. Why did Theresa bother to help me after hours on a Saturday after working so hard that week? I will not forget Theresa's help and kindness. Absolute Comfort Heating & Air is lucky to have Theresa as part of their team.VerifiedPosted on Yelp Chris C.Our A/C went out during a heat wave (111 degrees). We had another local A/C company who we have dealt with on numerous occasions come out and tell us the blower motor went out. Much to our dismay, and discomfort, we were told that it would be three weeks before they could get another blower motor in. Luckily, a friend of ours was familiar with Absolute Comfort and recommended them to us. They were able to get us a blower motor within three days and installed it. The office called us multiple times to let us know the status of finding a motor and, they did not disappoint in finding one. The technician even spent time with us afterwards, answering our questions and helping us understand under what circumstances we should decide to replace the system. I have every confidence in this company and will continue to use them going forward.VerifiedPosted on Yelp James K.Their customer service is impeccable. Thanks to Matt, Jacob and Deven. James K. 'n East SactoVerifiedPosted on Yelp Lee B.Steven came to our home and provided his HONEST opinion regarding what needed to be fixed on our HVAC system. This company has a forever customer now due to the excellent communication with not only staff but technicians too. Thresa thank you for putting my mind at ease during the service call. Thankful our HVAC issues were fixable.VerifiedPosted on Yelp Mark K.I just had the folks at Absolute Comfort install a new Bosch heat pump system. Having a large solar power install to power the Bosch system, I can't wait to start heating the house with electricity! No more PGE gas! The crew was prompt and courteous as always. Thanks!VerifiedPosted on Yelp Joyce ..Jim called in advance to let me know he was on the way. He took care of everything and didn't leave until I was completely satisfied. I highly recommend this company.Load moreVerified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Repair It or Replace It?
Honest answer: it depends on three things — the age of the system, the cost of the repair, and how much it’s costing you to run.
| Repair usually makes sense when… | Replacement usually makes sense when… |
|---|---|
| The system is under 10–12 years old | The system is 15+ years old |
| The repair is a fraction of replacement cost | The repair approaches half of a new system |
| It’s the first significant failure | It’s the third service call in two summers |
| It still cools the house adequately | Bills climb every year for the same comfort |
| It uses current refrigerant | It runs on R-22, which is no longer produced |
If replacement turns out to be the smarter money, we’ll walk you through AC installation options — including the SMUD and Tech Clean California rebates that can cover a meaningful share of a high-efficiency upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can someone come out?
Most calls get a same-day or next-day appointment. During a heat wave, demand spikes across the whole region — call early in the day for the best chance at same-day service. Maintenance plan members receive priority scheduling.
How much does AC repair cost in Fair Oaks?
Most common repairs — capacitors, contactors, drain clearing, thermostat issues — sit at the lower end. Compressor and coil work costs substantially more. You’ll get a firm price before any work begins. The diagnostic fee is $120, and we waive it entirely when the repair comes to more than $499.
Can you work on my brand of system?
Yes. Our technicians service all major residential brands regardless of who installed it.
My AC is 18 years old. Is repairing it a waste of money?
Not automatically — but at that age we’ll give you the full picture, including what the repair buys you in remaining life and what a replacement would cost after rebates. Then it’s your call.
Can I get an appointment the same day I call?
Usually, yes — especially if you call in the morning. We hold room in the daily schedule for no-cool calls, and on the hottest days we keep working until the calls are handled. If we cannot reach you the same day, we will tell you honestly rather than leave you waiting.
Do you offer maintenance to prevent breakdowns?
Yes. Most emergency calls we run trace back to something a seasonal tune-up would have caught — a dirty coil, a weak capacitor, a low charge. Our maintenance plan covers both cooling and heating seasons.
